Church of the Holy Sepulchre Closes its Doors

Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, revered by Christian pilgrims around the world to be the site of Jesus’s crucifixion and his burial tomb, closed its doors indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic last week. This is the first time that this fourth century Church which was closed to the public since the black plague in 1342. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the second most highly visited attraction in Israel. Approximately 52% of all tourists visited this church in 2018, representing approximately 2.3 million visitors.
