Grotto of Nativity measures twelve meters in length and three meters in breath, and is also rectangular in shape. This rock cave is the place of Jesus’s birth. A 14 point star can be seen on the floor with the words “Hic de Virgine Maria Jesus Christus natus est” –Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary, in honor of the location of the Nativity. The entry located to the right of the iconostasis through Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity and leads down to the cave.
Also located here at a lower level is the Grotto of the Manger. It is covered in marble, though part of the original rock can be seen.
