Feast-Goers to do the Jerusalem Food Tour
09-19-10 15:52

Feast-goers will be participating in several day tours around the area. However, one  promises to provide  a unique culinary glimpse into modern Israel.

For years the ICEJ has planned numerous day tours so that Feast - goers can have an opportunity to learn about Israel by volunteering, visiting sites, going on walking tours of the Old City and participating on solidarity visits to Sderot, etc. This year, for the first time, they will also have an opportunity to learn about the country by experiencing its food as they go on a culinary food tour of Jerusalem's celebrated outdoor market, Machene Yehuda.

Travelujah has organized a half day tour of the shuk and is bringing in celebrated chef Tali Friedman, a Jerusalemite who will soon be starring in her own tv show, to bring the shuk to life. The group will get a 'behind the scenes' tour of the market, learning about the produce, the spices, cheeses, fish as well as the special history of Machene Yehuda and the unique neighborhood. Participants will be stopping at many of the vendors along the way tasting their way through the market experiencing the tastes of unique foods and learning about their uses and preparation techniques.

What better way to learn about a culture than to spend time with the people and learn about the food.
