Highlights
The modest little church in Nain displays a painting of Jesus performing the miracle in the town, and can only be visited when the church is opened by the family living in its back who are the only ones with a key. The village has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and the present village is situated on top of the ruins of the old town.
Background Information
Jesus raised his first person from the dead in Nain, a small village in the Galilee. The man was already dead upon Jesus' arrival and had left his widowed mother alone and without any means of support according to the social patterns of the time. The desperate mother called on Jesus to turn her situation around, and he raised her only son from the dead. To commemorate the miracle the Franciscans built a church in Nain in 1880, which today is open to visitors.
