Highlights

A must for any visitor to the Hula Valley is the Hula Valley Nature Reserve. This protected area is lovely lush and green with a number of marked paths ideal for walking, crossing the wetlands. This is an ideal spot for bird lovers especially during the migration seasons, but can be enjoyed all year by anyone at any age.

Background Information

The Hula Valley is the site of Biblical Merom and Hazor in the very north of Israel. The area belonged to the tribe of Dan who built the city of Dan there. The valley has been settled continuously for the last 10 000 years and is today a green, lush area dotted with kibbutzim and other settlements. The Merom lake was drained in the 1950's in an attempt to turn the valley into farmland, but has since been partly re-flooded in order to protect the invaluable wild life indigenous to the area. Situated in the African Rift, the Hula Valley is an important stop over for transmigrating birds, and has again become a paradise for bird watchers.
