Highlights of David's Citadel in the Holy Land

David's Citadel's main attraction is its museum depicting Jerusalem's very long and shifting history. The exhibition is detailed but clear and gives a wonderful overview on the many events which took place in the one city  in the world that is holy to three religions. The exhibition is modern, well kept and does justice to the amazing architecture of the building. The site also contains varying art exhibitions of very high quality and a wonderful sound and light show three times a week in the evening. Must reserve tickets in advance!

Background Information on David's Citadel in the Holy Land

The Tower of David was built by King Herod in the 1. Century BC and has no connection to the historical King David. The tower as we see it today was built by the Ottomans who left many older elements of the site intact, with some dating back as far as 2700 years. The site has historically mainly been used for defense of the city due to its strategic location but now contains a museum, coffee shop, conference facilities and exhibitions, and has been incorporated into the busy cultural life of Jerusalem.
