Highlights
The Church of Ascension features what is said to be the footprint of Jesus, left behind upon his ascension to heaven. Only the imprint of the right foot can be seen there since the left foot imprint was taken to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount centuries ago.
Background Information
The site of the church of Ascension has been connected to the ascension of Jesus since the 4th Century. The Crusaders built a church on the site in the 12th Century which later mostly fell into ruin and a mosque was added in the 17th Century. Muslims too regard the ascension of Jesus as holy and the place has been in use as a mosque for hundreds of years, and today the Church of the Ascension is owned by the Muslim Wakf (trust) but with access for Christians.
Travelujah Tips
