The Holy Land is a land that speaks. If one listens carefully enough, its poetic verses can be heard. It's also land that sings, and those with an open heart can hear its beautiful melodies.
Song has long been a part of the Jewish tradition, like all ancient traditions. For thousands of years, Jews have been singing to express their feelings of love and longing for God and have used song as a vehicle to cultivate a closeness to God. Song can bring one to a heightened level of awareness of the Divine and can also be an expression of that expanded consciousness. The Sages of Israel taught that, in the Book of Psalms, when a psalm begins with the phrase, "A Song for David", King David was using the song as a device to reach a higher level of attachment to God, whereas a song that begins with "For David, a Song", was written while King David was already in that higher space of cleaving to the Living God.
