If you need a break from the bustling alleyways of the Old City’s Christian Quarter, step into the Austrian Hospice for a calm retreat. The Austrian Hospice is a headquarters for numerous Europeans travelling the Holy Land but has more to offer than just travel advice. On the left end of the long hallway is a modest café famous for its Apfelstrudel, although it serves a variety of other pastries and warm beverages.
After placing your order with the manager, an Austrian nun with a fascinating history, sit outside among the luscious bushes and flowers. As you enjoy this mildly sweet delicacy in the serene garden you will forget you are in the heart of a pulsating Old City.
To top off your visit, climb the marble staircases to the rooftop of the hospice. You’ll discover a breathtaking panorama of the Old City and of greater Jerusalem, a jigsaw of rolling hills, golden domes and satellite dishes.
I am eighteen and am getting ready to enlist in the Israeli army. I feel very strongly about serving in the army, and I'm excited about it, too. I am not sure yet in what unit I'll be placed. So far, I've had a bunch of different tests.
Besides missing a day of school, army tests are a great way to meet people. Just imagine yourself walking into a room of strangers, with whom the only thing you have in common is some sort of aptitude to serve in the same unit as you.I have met interesting people from all over the country. I wonder if I'll serve with any of them.
