open? yes? no?
"I have wandered all my life and I have traveled, the difference between the two is this- we wander for distraction, we travel for fulfillment."
" Through this world I am travelling I am endlessly creating myself."
English seems to be the language of the world these days, however every so often you will meet someone who doesn't even know "hello". This morning as I cooked Sunday brunch for the 40 university students I work for in Athens Greece I was once again confronted with the reality of that. I Ran down to the street fruit store but if was unopen. how do I know, well the young man inside said quite a few words in Greek, I said a few more in English and then we both walked away having no clue what just happened, but I knew this, I wasn't getting any fruit from there today. That seems to happen to me all the time. Are hand motions too much to ask for? Maybe a smile? Or just don't unlock the door till its open? I can't help but smile thinking about it. THose humbling experiences begin to define my travels abroad and travelling never grows old in that way.
Lesson 1- Let go of what you think you know, embrace the awkward moments.
