Sacred Musical Festival Weekend Special at Notre Dame of Jerusalem
The Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, whose Our Lady of Peace Chapel will host two free concerts as part of the first Jerusalem Sacred Music Festival, 6-7 September 2012, is offering festival-goers attractive weekend package rates. The 140-room, Vatican-owned guest house, with its newly-renovated rooms and suites, is centrally located opposite the New Gate and offers festival-goers a unique international atmosphere in the heart of Jerusalem. Guests can also enjoy the famous Rooftop Cheese and Wine Restaurant, with arguably the best views across the Old and New City and a menu that features over 40 different types of imported gourmet cheeses and more than 60 different wines. Al fresco dining is also available at La Cafeteria, which is open throughout the day and evening with a varied international menu.
The Notre Dame Center was selected for inclusion in the Sacred Music Festival because of its historic and symbolic characteristics that reflect the spirit of the festival and its inter-faith message. The Chapel, with its excellent acoustics and renovated Pipe Organ provides not only spiritual comfort to pilgrims and travelers with regular mass services and special festival celebrations including Christmas and Easter, but also serves as a venue for occasional free concerts and recitals. The first concert, entitled Tunes of Sanctity, features the Harmony Choir singing Christian music from different periods and sects in several languages accompanied by organ music. (09:00) The second concert, features Rana Khoury and the Tarteel Band playing Byzantine music associated with Greek Orthodox ceremonies (12:00).
