Archaeology

Archaeology in the Holyland has been quite controversial in recent years.

It has divided the archaeological world  into biblical minimalists and maximalists.  No matter where one stands in this debate  however, it is clear that  recent excavations have shed light on these periods and thus allows usto understand them better.  Whether we are exploring the Middle Bronze Period attributed to the Patriarchs or the Iron Age (1st Temple Period) or the time of the Gospels, recent archaelogical finds have certainly allowed us to better understand the historical context within which the biblical saga takes place. The City of David excavations conducted by Eilat Mazar is a good case in point.  Mazar's finds over the past few years have provided strong evidence for the existence of a monumental building that could according to Mazar, have been King David's palace.
